2018 = Travel, Wine, Food & Fun

Hello again wine lovers, and apologies for our lengthy sabbatical from actually authoring blog posts. 2018 was simply crazy! Between work, travel, and our normal day-to-day hectic lifestyle, we took a break from writing to give ourselves some much needed R&R (aka, drinking wine without the responsibility of writing about it). It’s a new year though, and what better time to reflect back on the past 12 months and plan for our 2019 adventures than now? Let’s start with 2018…

2018 was a year of travel and adventure. From local trips around Virginia and the East Coast, to a whirlwind “vacation” across the pond, we explored new places, made new memories, and soaked up as much culture as we possibly could. We spent a week at Bethany Beach reliving childhood memories, eating ice cream, drinking margaritas and simply enjoying time. We went to Chicago for a work trip (shout out to The Equity Summit) and ate deep dish, snapped photos at “the bean” and saw a hilarious show, She the People, at The Second City. We spent a weekend in Charlottesville with our best friends, exploring new wineries (Gabriele Rausse is a new favorite destination for us), classic breweries (Starr Hill), and eating delicious local food. We discovered new “Sunday Funday” spots– food and drinks at The Wharf, live music at Farm Brew Live, hikes and views in Bluemont, and relaxing at The Front Porch in The Plains watching the local traffic pass by. We celebrated a college reunion (Go Dukes!) and dropped off our teenager (technically adult?) at college, giving us plenty of opportunities to visit our favorite spots in Richmond (The Veil Brewing, Rappahannock Oyster Co., Can Can Brasserie & LuLu’s to name a few).

While our local adventures were plenty and made for a few our favorite moments in 2018, the greatest adventure of the year was most certainly our trip to France and Italy. We spent two weeks exploring two amazing countries– eating ALL of the food, drinking ALL of the wine, and enjoying ALL of the culture. We visited Paris and Reims (Champagne) in France, and Sorrento, Capri, Rome, Siena, Tuscany and Florence in Italy. Since we have so much to share about our trip, we’ve decided to summarize it with a separate post coming soon, Our Top 10 Experiences in Paris and Italy.

Now for 2019…

2019 is already shaping up to be a pretty busy year. With seven Virginia wine clubs (Boxwood, Early Mountain, King Family, Linden, Delaplane, Stone Tower & Greenhill) and new wineries popping up all the time, we’re sure to do our fair share of wine tasting. We’ve also got plenty of travel to look forward to– a trip to Charleston in February, London (and perhaps back to Paris for a night or two!?!) in March, Bethany Beach for many visits, the Outer Banks for a week this summer, Charlottesville getaways, and lots of work travel to new and interesting places! Make sure to follow along on our adventures via the gram, and don’t be shy about messaging us if there is an exciting new place we have to visit this year!

Cheers to a happy, healthy, wine and adventure-filled 2019!
