The Barns at Hamilton Station Vineyards

Saturday was chilly and windy so after a lazy start to the day filled with lots of coffee, doggie snuggles, and of course a home-cooked breakfast, we headed off to a Leesburg favorite– The Barns at Hamilton Station.  This winery has been mentioned before in our favorite rainy day winery posts, but it’s just as suitable in cold weather!  We are wine club members here so we get to enjoy a free tasting on each visit which is a nice perk.  The winery is located just off of Rte. 7 in Hamilton, VA, and is also accessible via the W&OD trail on warmer days.

The tasting room sits on 10 acres of land and consists of a beautiful renovated barn (with the cutest rustic decor ever!).  The upstairs is the main tasting area built of reclaimed wood, it also features a large fire place, couches, a deck overlooking some land and a pond at the bottom, and plenty of other seating to grab.  They also have a loft area, which is usually reserved for large groups or open to wine club members.  On most weekends, in both warmer and colder temperatures the Barns hosts live music.

We opted to do our tasting at the bar with one of the owners, Mary Ann.  The wine was lovely and the perfect compliment to the cold and dreary day. One of the things we like the most about The Barns is that even on a crowded day at the winery, the staff is warm and friendly and we never feel rushed through a tasting.  It was interesting to hear the story of how the winery came about, and since we’ve been members of their club since the beginning it’s great to see how their business has flourished in the Loudoun County countryside. After our tasting, we debated between the 2012 Merlot and the 2012 Meritage and ended up enjoying the Merlot.

We grabbed a table and sat down to instagram some classic winery pics (naturally) and listen to the live music of Ken Wenzel.  We spent the rest of the afternoon sipping the grape and relaxing in the cozy barn to some great acoustic tracks. Couldn’t think of a better way to spend a cold and lazy Saturday afternoon! Enjoy some pics from The Barns!
