Dog-Friendly Wineries in Virginia

We recently had a request for more information on which Northern Virginia wineries are dog-friendly.  You ask, we deliver.  Even though many of these wineries are listed as dog-friendly, here are a few tips on bringing your pup to a winery:

  1. Many wineries will designate on their website what their pet policies are.  Make sure you check out their site first or call the winery, and determine whether “pet-friendly” means on their outdoor grounds only or in the tasting room as well.
  2. Make sure you bring proper supplies for your pup; water bowls, leashes, poop baggies, snacks, towels (running through the vineyards can get a little messy) etc.  Some wineries may be extra friendly and provide these things, but the last thing you want to do is be unprepared when nature calls.  Don’t ruin the dog-friendly for the rest of us!
  3. Your dog must be friendly and well-behaved.  We have been to wineries on several occasions and witnessed dogs that are not friendly or incredibly barky and they do distract the other customers from their experience.  In addition, the winery will most likely ask you to leave so save yourself the trouble.
  4. Try to tire your pup out a bit before with a long walk or hike in the local area.  There are many great hiking trails near the wineries listed below.  Do some research and plan a great day for the whole family!
